Legal English Course
Lawspirit specializes in teaching Legal English to attorneys throughout the world. Our instructors are American attorneys with vast experience teaching these courses.
Due to the huge growth of international commerce, the demand for attorneys that know the correct language to conduct business and legal transactions, and being that English is the language used in most of the transactions, it is essential to have a command of Legal English.
Our courses are focused towards individuals that have a command of the English language, but that want to learn legal terms that will enable them to prepare contracts, letters and other legal documents.
The Legal English Course will reduce your costs. By not having to pay for translations made by individual without experience in the legal field, your expenses will be less and your documents and contracts will be more clear and concise. This course is recommended as a prerequisite for any person that is considering getting a Masters degree in the United States. The course uses a practical method making the appropriate distinctions between regular English and Legal English.
Participants
Participants are likely to be in a legal practice which involves the use of English to deal with individual or corporate clients, or fellow lawyers, across different legal jurisdictions. It is assumed that participants will have been practising law for at least two years.
Language level
An upper intermediate level of English is required. Participants should be able to read English (newspapers, textbooks, journals etc.) relatively easily and be able to understand spoken English with few problems. If you are unsure about your level please contact Lawspirit.
Content & Aims
The course aims to give participants the opportunity to extend and activate their legal vocabulary in English; to build their knowledge of idioms; to increase fluency and confidence in using English in professional contexts; and to enable participants to prioritise their own language learning needs with a view to continued English language development after the course.
Course activities will include:
- role plays of meetings and negotiations;
- giving short presentations on legal topics;
- reading and discussion legal text, including case reports;
- vocabulary building exercises;
- discussion.
There will be guest speakers both from the Law Faculty of the University and from the legal profession.
